For those of you looking for glasses to help with photophobia, light sensitivity and migraine triggers, I highly recommend Axon Optics!  I have been wearing Axon Optics for several years now.  With all the reviews I have done, Axon Optics are one of my favorites.  They are my favorite because I need and wear them often.

Because of my love for them, there are *affiliate links in this post. I will be rewarded with a small commission and you, hopefully, will be rewarded with eye strain and migraine relief. I really benefit from their glasses and recommend them without being influenced. I am not a doctor so please refer to your doctor or optometrist for concerns. See *disclaimer for more details.

Natural Relief

I wear both indoor and outdoor glasses.  They are beneficial in their own ways. Axon Optics uses FL-41 tint that has been proven to help with conditions associated with light sensitivity. “It successfully blocks the distressing portion of the light spectrum, which bothers light sensitive people and causes cumulative eye damage over a lifetime.”

Where I wear them:

  • Outside
    • sunny days, cloudy days, rainy days, bright snowy days (all weather!)
  • nside
    • shopping, at home, at work, at sporting events (any where with fluorescent lights)

Basically, I wear them everywhere.  I keep my indoor pair in my purse for all events and keep my outdoor ones in my car.

Additionally, Axon Optics has amazing customer service.  They can and will answer your questions immediately. They want you to get exactly what you need for your specific needs!  They are a company that wants to help and they do!

They are so generous that they are offering MyMigraineLife readers a coupon code to use for yourself or a gift for a loved one.  Order them today, I think you’ll love them!

Organic Aromas oil and diffuser review

Affiliate disclosure: Some of the links on this blog are affiliate links.  This means if you click on the link and purchase I will receive affiliate commission.

Everyone seems to be talking about essential oils and what they can do for you.  I have been looking into them for a while and am so lucky to have the opportunity to try Organic Aromas Designer Series Essential Oil Blends Luxury Gift Set and Raindrop – Essential Oil Diffuser for Aromatherapy.

After speaking with the makers of Organic Aromas, it was clear to me that safety while using essential oils is important to them.  Buying from a distributer like Organic Aromas or other reputable companies is important and risks may increase if you are using cheaper brands.  The oils are intended for inhalation reasons which has low risk of safety concerns.  As always, I keep all products away from my children and dog.

The bottles are stored in a sturdy classy looking case.  The variety offers different relief for my different feelings and sensitivities.  I am super sensitive to smells during a migraine attack and often can’t stand smelling anything.  When I have a headache or low grade migraine, I find certain essential oils to be relaxing and therapeutic.  Depending on how I’m feeling and what I’m doing depends on my preference of smell.  That’s why the Luxury Gift Set is so wonderful!  Variety is the spice of life and I have a variety of needs to go with my variety of oils.

After trying them, I have been able to split them up into how I like to incorporate them throughout my day.  Everyone’s preferences to smells are very different.  You will need to do a trial for yourself and find what works for you.  This is how I generally use them….

Morning:

Energy-Any extra boost in getting some energy in the morning is always helpful.

Passion-I like to start my day with passion, drive and the smell of motivation to start my day or feel better.

Afternoon:

Purity-This scent is nice during the day because it smells clean.  There’s something about my house smelling clean that makes me feel better

Burglars- This is a homey smell that smells of spices.  I used to like cinnamon candles but found that many of them made me sick.  Diffusing burglars is a better alternative to my love of Fall smells.

Bedtime:

Serenity- What better time to be serene than when you are sleeping?  I start my day passionate and energetic and fall asleep serene. (Well that’s the hope, right?)

Signature blend-My favorite!  I love this smell; it is my go to oil.  The signature blend was included in the diffuser which was a perfect scent to start my adventures with Organic Aromas oils.

The raindrop diffuser is a pretty and light weight wood base with glass raindrop top.  The product arrived in a protective box with padding and velvet case for the pieces.  A detailed information and instruction manual was provided including cleaning instructions.

The diffuser does not use water or heat.  It nebulizes the oils allowing the diffuser to disperse oil with its full smell and therapeutic properties.  For more information on how the diffuser works, go here….  Although there is no water vapor being pushed out, I was surprised at how much the raindrop diffuser was pushing out the oil and smell.  No mess with less chance of spillage.

An aspect of the diffuser that I like is the ability to turn it low to high.  Generally,  noise is a trigger and escalates my migraine.  If it is turned up all the way, the diffuser makes noise and turns off automatically turning back on when needed.  The nice thing about the diffuser is that  I can alter the amount of smell and noise that is being dispersed.  It is quiet, overall, but when my sensitivities are high, it’s nice to have options.

A concern I had with the diffuser was the constant light.  Although it is beautiful, I am highly sensitive to light especially with a migraine.  The great news is, I find it to be soothing and NOT triggering.  It is subtle and pretty and not bright enough to bother me in my bedroom where I like it dark.  It’s  pretty in the kitchen or other areas of the house.

I use Organic Aromas diffuser and oils  daily.  I  find it to be  versatile and pleasant. I love using it at night next to my bed and other places in my house.  Sometimes I need to slow down, take a deep breathe, and breathe and Organic Aromas is a perfect fit.

Theraspecs review: glasses to reduce migraine, photophobia, and eye strain

“TheraSpecs are precision tinted, thoughtfully designed eyewear that filter out the harmful light that causes eyestrain, headaches, and migraines.” [1]   They have backed up their product with “articles that delve into the effects of lighting as well as independent studies that have verified the benefits of the tint (they) use in every pair of TheraSpecs.”

I am a teacher and busy mom.  That means I spend a lot of time in fluorescent lights.  I teach under them, then go to the grocery store with them and suffer wherever I go. I have used them in stores, restaurants, my gym and more. “Fluorescent lights pulse very rapidly, even when working properly. That rate is too fast to see consciously. However, the brain can still pick up that pulsing as rapid signals from the nerves of the eye. Some repeating patterns, such as visibly flickering lights or even stripes of certain widths, can trigger headaches, eyestrain, migraines, and exhaustion. The pulsing is most intense at certain wavelengths.” [1]

theraspecs_logo_1418418998__87188Since I have been lucky enough to review TheraSpecs, I have worn them everywhere!  I use them in my classroom.  I use them when the lights are too much and also when the morning sun is shining in.  My TheraSpecs glasses provide enough protection so that I am not wearing super dark sunglasses but also am not squinting and suffering in the brightness.

TheraSpecs “uses a specialty tint that has distinct, known, and predictable light filtering properties. This is different than a typical tint where the specific filtering properties are unknown or vary with each lens application. Other glasses may appear to have a similar reddish tint. However, they do not focus on the specific parts of light that cause or exacerbate such problems as migraines, eyestrain, headaches, and exhaustion. But through (their) precision tint, (they) can ensure that each pair of TheraSpecs accurately filters that problematic light.” [2]

I have also used them while writing my migraine  blog , working on the computer and using my phone.  It has really helped.  According TheraSpecs, “this makes sense: the backlight in most LCD monitors and TVs is actually a small fluorescent light!” [1]

Besides being so helpful with my migraines, headaches, and photophobia, I really like the look and feel of TheraSpecs.  Glasses often times are uncomfortable and heavy on my face.  TheraSpecs are light weight, have flexible fit and wrap around coverage if needed.  The tint is nice for indoors being I don’t feel like they look like special need glasses or too dark sunglasses.  They provide the perfect combination of indoor glasses and protective eye wear.

Along with all of these wonderful attributes, I really like TheraSpecs as a company.  I always feel good about working with and buying from companies that really care about their clients.  Their customer service is very responsive and they have a 60 day full return policy.  They are dedicated to helping each individual and their specific need so that there is no reason to hesitate to buy.  I have invested in a lot of migraine related products over the years and knowing that I can try them and if they don’t work return them, is a great incentive to go for it!

So as a mom, teacher, migraine and photophobia sufferer that can’t hide from light all day, I recommend TheraSpecs!

Tips for sleep, rest, insomnia and Migraine

cropped-img_25481.jpg

I had a horrible sleep last night.  And to add to it, we lost an hour!  Sleep is so important for so many reasons.  My body is constantly fighting pain.  As you can imagine that makes me exhausted.  Sleeping and down town time are  both forced upon me and required to recover or survive.  It’s forced upon me by extreme nausea, joint and muscle pain, the intense sensitivities and of course the  head pain.    Giving myself a comfortable place to rest and sleep is important.  Blackout shades plus curtains help when even the clock on my tv is too bright.  I have yet to find a perfect pillow I love, but I love my bed!  We have a Christeli and it is amazingly comfortable.  I get CRAZY hot when I sleep.  My husband can feel my body radiate heat.  My Christeli mattress  sleeps cooler than our last bed, it relieves joint pain, and when I’m moving around my husband isn’t being disturbed. It is difficult for me to fall asleep in general.  Sometimes the pain flutters my eyes open and my body clenches so it’s hard to relax.   I have eucalyptus hand lotion, peppermint essential oil and water on my night stand to try to relax me.  I find that I tend to breathe deeper and slower with these things.  Everyone’s preference for smells is totally unique though. Sometimes they help me, other times the smell of anything makes me sicker.   I typically take my meds, drink some water, ice, and hibernate.  I lay under the blankets to eliminate more light and sound and sometimes pile pillows on top to have added pressure.  All of these things give me the needed rest that I require.  Being in pain is so grueling and giving the body a chance to recover is crucial.   I don’t think people fully understand the need for rest, sleep, and a chance to eliminate triggers.  A calm environment allows my brain to relax after being in constant overdrive in my loud, bright, motion filled life.  I need sleep, rest, and a cave.

“You aren’t nuts, Migraines hurt” with my Axon Optics glasses

This post contains an affiliate link.  This means that if you buy from clicking from here I will receive affiliate compensation.  This in no way alters my opinion and I only recommend items I use.  I use these often!!!!!

Today I went to see my neurologist per usual.  I was prepared and wore my Axon Optics glasses.  As I sat there and reached for a magazine I saw a coconut painted with the saying, “You aren’t nuts, Migraines hurt.”  Well isn’t that the truth.  This was actually one of the first things I saw when I went to my neurologist over 10 years ago.  It was a place I knew I wanted to be.  They are right, I’m not nuts….I’m hurting.  Anyways, so when I went into the room, I felt so much better that I wasn’t being beaten down by the lights because of my glasses.  Now if only they would unplug the clock.  The ticking is like a small nail being hammered into my skull with each second.  I have never understood why a neurologists office, of all places, would have such triggers surrounding it.  I have seen a request not to wear perfume while visiting the office which is a nice consideration.  But what about the lights?  Why do they need to be so bright?  I can understand a surgical center or a place that needs additional light to diagnose, but I have an invisible disease….no lights needed.  They have actually turned off the lights at appointments for me when I’m in heightened pain.  So why are they needed?  Uh, some things remain a mystery.  Until then, I’m wearing my Axon Optics glasses and next time ear plugs!
