A new trial is being done to help medical research for migraines.

DESCRIPTION

Chronic migraine headaches can interfere with work, family, and leisure. Medications may not manage the pain, nausea, dizziness and other symptoms associated with migraines. This trial may help people suffering from chronic migraines maintain their lifestyle better. Please share this study with your community and help medical research for migraines.

Please complete the online questionnaire to see if you are eligible for the trial

Learn more about this trial on the sponsor website.

If you are not familiar with clinical trials, here are some FAQs:

Clinical trials are research studies to determine whether investigational drugs or treatments are safe and effective for humans.  All new investigational medications and devices must undergo several clinical trials, often involving thousands of people.

Why participate in a clinical trial?

You will have access to new investigational treatment that wouldn’t be available to the general public only upon approval.  You will also review study-related medical care and attention from clinical trial staff at research facilities.  Clinical trials offer hope for many people and an opportunity to help researchers find better treatment for others in the future.

Runnin' For Research Logo

Here it is….that time of year where the leaves are changing, the air is getting crisper and it’s time to donate.  During the Fall, I participate in many charity walks and Runnin’ for Research is one that makes me feel like I’m making a difference for my own cause

The last 2 years I have participated virtually.

2015

2016

Runnin’ for Research, Inc. (R4R), was founded in 2015 as a charitable organization dedicated to research, awareness, empowerment, and advocacy in all areas of headache and migraine disorders. The primary mechanism to accomplish the missions is the organization and implementation of 5K runs and walks throughout the United States.

Contributions to R4R are used to recruit, support, market, and manage local race events with all proceeds from these events being used to support the missions of the organization. In 2016, R4R completed three run/walk events, including Morgantown, West Virginia; Louisville, Kentucky; and Kansas City, Missouri. Donations totaling $48,000 were given to various organizations, including the American Migraine Foundation, National Headache Foundation, Migraine Research Foundation, American Brain Foundation, and the American Headache and Migraine Association. Other entities may be supported upon request if they align with the mission of R4R.”

Runnin’ for Research is now an independent 501(c)(3) organization. Their mission is to “To improve the quality of life of those who suffer with headache and migraine disorders through fundraising for quality research and the promotion of patient empowerment, community awareness, and local and national advocacy.”

Chronic Headache and Migraine Summit, July 10-17th

Chronic Headache & Migraine Summit

This week, I have teamed up (and become an affiliate for) Health Talks Online to bring you “a free online event hosted by headache and migraine experts.  The Chronic Headache and Migraine Summit brings together over thirty clinicians and researchers who have success in helping people look deeper into the root issues causing their headaches or migraine pain.”

Up until now, most “so-called” solutions only addressed the symptoms of headache sufferers, not the causes–often times causing side effects that were as bad, or even worse!

The Chronic Headache & Migraine Summit starts on July 10th, and tens of thousands will learn from the expert wisdom so important to reaching the root cause of suffering!

Will you be there?

What you could learn at The Chronic Headache & Migraine Summit:
Broader understanding of contributing factors
Hormonal, digestive and psychological influences
Potentially life-changing holistic remedies
Easy, practical, at-home tips and secrets
And more!

If you learn even one fact from an expert that changes your life, it will be worth it!

American Migraine Foundation, “Move against Migraine” initiative

American Migraine Foundation Launches Move Against Migraine Initiative

One of my favorite foundations, American Migraine Foundation, is starting a new initiative.

About The American Migraine Foundation

The American Migraine Foundation (AMF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of research and awareness surrounding migraine, a disabling disease that impacts 36 million men, women and children in the United States. The AMF was founded in 2010 to provide access to information and resources for individuals living with migraine, as well as their loved ones. Working alongside the American Headache Society, the AMF’s mission is to mobilize a community for patient support and advocacy, as well as drive and support innovative research that will lead to improvement in the lives of individuals living with migraine and other disabling diseases that cause severe head pain.

AMF launched the Move Against Migraine initiative to help educate individuals about migraine, as well as resources, such as information on treatment and experts.

Check out the full press release here

  • Move Against Migraine integrates advertising, public relations and social and digital media, as well as radio and television public service announcement.
  • Through the initiative the AMF intends to change the conversation around migraine and mobilize a large community to advocate for themselves and others to increase funding for research.
  • The initiative aims to help individuals:
  • Learn more about migraine and the treatment options via AMF online research and education library – visit https://americanmigrainefoundation.org/
  • Find help by visiting our website to connect with migraine experts (there is a Find a Doctor tool), learn from content developed by renowned migraine experts, or searching for a clinical trial investigating new treatment options
  • Get connected by joining our Move Against Migraine community on Facebook, and use your voice on social media to join together with others living with migraine and other diseases that cause severe head pain.
  • The Facebook group, Move Against Migraine, connects leading migraine and headache specialists with those living with migraine and other diseases that cause severe head pain. The platform features regular Facebook Live events with migraine experts, information and research updates.

To improve the quality of life of those who suffer with headache and migraine disorders through fundraising for quality research and the promotion of patient empowerment, community awareness, and local and national advocacy.

Here it is….that time of year where the leaves are changing, the air is getting crisper and it’s time to donate.  During the Fall I participate in many charity walks and Runnin’ for Research is one that I added to my list last year. https://mymigrainelife.wordpress.com/2015/10/09/running-for-research-and-icing/

“Runnin’ for Research, Inc. (R4R), was founded in 2015 as a charitable organization dedicated to research, awareness, empowerment and advocacy in all areas of headache and migraine disorders. The primary mechanism to accomplish the missions is the organization and implementation of 5K runs and walks throughout the United States.

Prior to its founding as a 501(c)3 organization, R4R operated as an entity of the American Headache and Migraine Association (AHMA), starting in 2014, and completed two cycles of races. In total, over $25,000 was made available to AHMA to distribute as warranted. Contributions to R4R are used to recruit, support, market, and manage local race events with all proceeds from these events being used to support the missions of the organization. Examples include support of the American Migraine Foundation, the American Headache and Migraine Association, and the Alliance for Headache Disorders Advocacy. Other entities may be supported upon request if they align with the mission of R4R.” http://www.runnin4research.org/about-r4r.html

Runnin’ for Research is now an independent 501(c)(3) organization.

How you can participate:

http://www.runnin4research.org/upcoming-races.html

Runnin’ for Research will be run in Kansas City, MO, Morgantown, WV, and Louisville, KY on October 8th.

Each location will offer:

5K run/1 mile walk to raise funding for headache and migraine research.

1 Mile walk non-competitive, untimed event.

“Virtual Runner” for anyone who wants to take part, support our event, but can’t actually be on site.  You can choose to run a 5K or walk a mile while the event occurs, or rest at home knowing you are supporting a great cause.  Of note, virtual runners will not be sent a race t-shirt.

Last year and this year I will participate as a virtual runner.  I am not a runner so I will be walking and donating to R4R on October 8th in my own location.  I encourage you to donate!  If you are unable to donate, I encourage you to go out and walk that day sending positive vibes to all those effected by Migraine and headache disorders.

If you participate that day, please #mymigrainelife and tag @mymigrainelife on facebook, instagram, and twitter to spread the social media buzz about the event.  I look forward to seeing your pictures and reading your stories!

Migraine Research Foundation fundraiser, “Haturday for Heads”

untitled

Recently I was contacted by a woman named Katherine (Katie) Janquart. She lives in Boise, Idaho and is a fellow migraine sufferer. She was first diagnosed with migraines in her teens and has had chronic migraines for the past 15 years. She decided early on in her migraine journey that she wanted to be an advocate for people like me.

Last year she formed a group called Migraine IDAHO and launched a page on Facebook. Her vision for Migraine IDAHO is to offer support, awareness and information on migraines. She also believes that one of the biggest ways she can help people with migraines is to help fund research. Last year Migraine IDAHO did an event on the second Saturday in April called “Haturday for Heads.” She had a local restaurant donate part of their sales for the day, a silent auction and a crazy hat contest. All the proceeds went to the Migraine Research Foundation and they worked with the Chronic Migraine Awareness organization.   I love this idea and the Migraine Research Foundation.  Last year I ran my own Jamberry fundraiser for MRF and feel that research is crucial in helping migraine sufferers.  I am happy to support “Haturday for Head” and hopefully you will participate too.

This year she will still have a get together at the local restaurant where part of the food purchased will be donated. She wants to blow last year out of the water and make “Haturday for Heads” an event that people will remember and look forward to in following years. If you are in the area, please stop by to support.

Since the event is named “Haturday for Heads” a hat with a special design specific to this event will be available for purchase. On the day of the event anyone who has a hat, can post pics in their hat no matter where they are in the world and be a part of the event.

We believe that this event can raise awareness. We both are dreamers and reaching for the stars hoping to unite migraine sufferers all across the word so that their voices can be heard. I am happy to support Katie and her efforts to raise money for Migraine Research Foundation. Please share this and participate in whatever way you can.   If you are unable to participate please share it and spread the word.

Thank You!

Running for Research and Icing with Migraine

runnin' for research. actually walking...

runnin’ for research. actually walking…

Last weekend my family moved for Migraine Research through American Headache Migraine Association.  We virtually ran for the Morgantown run but if you missed it, you can still participate in the run in Lousiville on October 17th.    My family are not runners but we chose to donate and move.  Here I am on the treadmill.  It was a cold and rainy day and I didn’t run, but I walked on the treadmill.

Having support and giving money for research felt great but working out doesn’t come without some sort of aches and pains.  Both my mother in law and husband have had knee surgery and need to ice after they have exercised.  I am a huge user of ice therapy for my head and ice helps my husband control swelling in his knee.

Disclosure: “I have been given Flexi Kold as part of a product review. Although the product was a gift, all opinions in this review remain my own and I was in no way influenced by the company.“

Fortunately, he was able to use Flexi Kold.  Flexi Kold was sent to me for a review and my husband is a perfect person to try it.  He likes the large surface that it covers and how you can conform it to the knee.  It is a polygel product with a money back guarantee.  There are many different types including the standard size, half size, neck contour, oversize and more.  He really likes that it is cold yet he is able to put it on his skin without a barrier in between.  While he enjoys that, he has found that it doesn’t stay cold that long and wishes it could be used for a lengthier amount of time.  On the picture on the right you can see that he had a towel under his knee and thrown up on the couch.  When he uses Flexi Kold, he wraps a towel around the ice pack and likes it’s flexibility to cover the entire knee.

So I encourage you all to move on Oct 17th runnin’ for research through AHMA or for whatever other reason you have.  Remember to take it at your own pace and in your own way.  Ice and take care of yourself!
