How we doctor my dog and she doctors me

This is going to be a short and sweet post. I’ve been sick since Christmas and my brain is feeling less than creative. In fact it’s down right stuffy, pained, exhausted, a bit sad, stressed and frustrated.

So I thought I’d share a fur baby and girl baby story that I think many of you will appreciate….

As I sat with a sinus infection, while experiencing side effects from new meds and my son being sick with constant meltdowns I watched my daughter “doctor up” my dog yesterday.

All she wanted from Santa was a pet vet clinic, she loves animals! I watched my dog wait in the waiting room (yes, that’s my SensaCalm weighted blanket on the couch that I have been hibernating under while I’m sick! Affiliate link)

Then she was seen by the doctor

That evening I missed a big traditional family dinner. As I sat in my dark room, my dog held my hand and kept me company for hours.

The head pain of Migraine is really extreme! All of the other things really suck! And there are a lot of other things (body aches, nausea, cold hands/feet/nose, etc)! One of the hardest things is being alone and missing out though! It’s really hard!

My dog is more than a dog, especially during these times. She is my sanity and a soul that is literally by my side during dark times. Anyone who has cried holding their pet can understand the depths of this bond.

I’m so proud that my daughter is such an avid animal lover. She gives and receives love in the biggest way and has the biggest heart. Seeing her show the love and compassion that my dog shows is something really special! ❤️❤️

Anyone else spending extra time with their fur baby being sick this Winter break?

Am I the only one fighting being sick while having sick children?

Sunday snoozing, shopping and sipping

Today I’m having a cozy day crafting, eating donuts and drinking coffee…

Using a Weighted Blanket for My Migraine Needs with SensaCalm

This product was given to me as a product review and contains affiliate links. My opinions are my own and I only recommend products I use and love. See disclaimer

A few years ago I taught children with many special needs.  During this time, I saw how incredibly powerful specialists are.  Physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, adaptive physical education and music.  The list goes on with how many ways there are to treat various needs.

I saw first hand how a weighted vest calmed a child.  For some reason I never considered sensory integration therapy for my migraines until recently.  I was laying on the couch with a migraine and under a blanket. I was restless with muscles clenched and in pain.  I was also cold so I piled a bunch of blankets on myself. I felt the weight wash over me and help calm my body a bit.

I realized I may benefit from a weighted blanket. After searching, I found SensaCalm.  The “weighted blankets, wraps, and lap pads provide the user with soothing, deep pressure and compressions, allowing the user to relax and calm themselves.” The variety of choices was fun to look through and blankets can be custom made.

My blanket has a “cuddle” fabric and is incredibly soft! I love this blanket!!! Like all therapeutic products, it is not cheap.  The blanket is an investment in my treatment. Rest and comfort, especially during migraine times, I need extra sensory input. The blanket will not stop a migraine but treats my overall pain and discomfort in my body. I now use this blanket everyday and recommend it to anyone with sensory needs.

SensaCalm also offers various toys and accessories.  While scrolling through, I ran across the epsom salt soap. “Epsom salts are known to provide a dose of magnesium through the skin (which people with autism tend to be short on).” Migraine sufferers also tend to be short on magnesium.  I use the lavender bar in the shower for days I don’t have time to take a bath (which are most days). It is made of a variety of natural ingredients made to draw out toxins and calm.

SensaCalm is a new item added to my gift list and I look forward to enjoying it all winter and year round. It has been an amazing addition to my Migraine tool kit at home. Like all products, please consult your doctor and see the safety guidelines provided by SensaCalm.
